Helderberg Cricket Club’s first team faced Bluebells in their first 50 overs match of the season at the Helderzicht Sports Grounds last Saturday and clinched a seven run win over the visitors.
After a delay caused by unfavourable pitch conditions, Bluebells won the toss and sent Helderberg in to bat.
Despite the odds, the home team posted a commendable 150/9 in their 50 overs.
In form Helderberg batsman Gary-Jon Sylvester scored 53 with support from veteran Owen Thomas (37).
Bluebells came out guns blazing and put pressure on the Helderberg bowlers. However, good captaincy saw the implementation of good bowling strategies which had the opponents experiencing a run drought in the middle overs.
The pick of the bowlers were a fired up Charl Katts who contributed (5-0-24-2), young new captain Keanu Barry who put up (4-0-24-2) and Shane Fredericks delivering excellent death bowling and defending 8 off the last over.
