SWCC teams show what they’re made of away from home

Somerset West Cricket Club (SWCC) 3 travelled to Kenilworth to take on Victoria CC this past Saturday.

Batting first after winning the toss, SWCC posted a respectable score of 175/5 ably led by Simon Ryder with 45* and Jean Rossouw with 41.

The SWCC attack, well led by Nic van der Vyfer with figures of 3/22 off his 7 overs, restricted the hosts to 154/8 for a 26 run victory cementing their third position on the 3 B log.

SWCC 4 played away against a strong South Peninsula outfit. SWCC won the toss and put the hosts in to bat. A fired-up SWCC bowling attack shot out South Peninsula for a mere 88 in the 33rd over. Ricky Heiberg 3/11, Rudi Momberg 2/11 and opener Jamie Ferreira 2/13 were the pick of the bowlers.

The hosts’ opening bowlers bowled with venom to make things difficult for the visitors. SWCC, however, managed to tough it out knocking the target off in the 22nd over for a four-wicket victory on the road. Skipper Ryno Venter hit an unbeaten 18.

SWCC 5 played away to Victoria on Saturday with the home side batting first and posting a target of 151/8. The attack was ably led by Pieter Mouton 2/23 and SWCC ladies’ opening quick Maritza de Klerk with 2/24. The SWCC batters never got going with only Gouws Koen reaching double figures (27). SWCC were bowled out for 78 losing by 73 runs.

Several SWCC juniors represented WP at various inter-provincial tournaments recently. Sam Chaplin played for the WP u-11 invitational team. Sam Chemaly captained the WP u-12 invitational team. Cruebelle Diko, Tyler Fisher and Arden Scholtz represented WP u-13 and 11-year-old Suzy Whall played for the WP u-16 ladies’ side.
