He’s been a police officer for 18 years and recently received the Top Cop award for service excellence.
This award was given by die Stellenbosch Community Policing Forum to recognise exceptional service delivery in the police service.
The top cop, Sgt Mark Jacobs, holds an outstanding record of 118 arrests in a three-month period. His arrests have resulted in a strong prosecution and conviction rate.
Jacobs has a well-honed ability to spot suspects who are wanted by the police, as well as an eye for identifying persons in the act of committing crime.
He had also achieved these results consistently in previous postings before serving in Stellenbosch for the past year.
“I am just doing what I am supposed to be doing, protecting the community by enforcing the law,” says Sgt Jacobs.
Jacobs has consistently received high praise by Stellenbosch station commander Brigadier Zithulele Dladla, who is very pleased to have him on his team.
Dladla and Jacobs had worked together in Khayelitsha in the past.
The CPF, represented by Dr Carol Puhl-Snyman (chairperson) and Marius Snyman (public relations officer), thanked Sgt Jacobs as stated on the award, “for his commitment, bravery and hard work”, to which Jacobs replied: “I only wish I could do more.”
