The incident took place on Sunday morning (April 16) just outside Klawer on the N7. The passengers of a blue Opel Corsa car, all family members, were returning to Mbekweni from Springbok in the Northern Cape where they had attended a church conference over the weekend.
According to reports, the driver of the Opel Corsa tried to overtake another motor vehicle when it collided head-on with an oncoming bus.
Seven passengers were declared dead on the scene, while one of the passengers died on his way to Vredenburg Hospital.

No one in the bus was injured.
According to the investigating officer, Sgt. Charles Willemse of Klawer Police Station the exact cause of the accident is still being investigated.
Zusange is a Grade 12 learner at Ihlumelo Secondary High School in Mbekweni.
Another family member, Ntomdithule Tyokolo, who was travelling from the same church conference, said that it was a big shock when they came across the crash site and saw how badly the Opel Corsa was crushed.
“I still couldn’t believe what I saw. We were all travelling the same route on our way back home. There was just about nothing left of the car.”
Klawer Police Station is investigating a case of culpable homicide.
