The Jive Young Gardens 7’s tournament showcased top quality rugby talent last Thursday despite very cool playing conditions.
The high school competition kicked off with a 28-14 win by Paulus Joubert Secondary school over Klein Nederburg (KN) to secure a place in the cup final. In the other semi-final Charleston Hill surprised Noorder-Paarl (NP) with a 26-0 win.
By default KN took the third place bronze medals as NP had too many injuries. Paulus Joubert defended their title successfully by beating Charleston Hill in the Cup Final 20-14 to retain the gold medal status.
In the club section Young Peoples fought hard to defeat Roses United while Young Gardens surprised the crowds with a win over Simondium. Newcomers, Young Standards defeated Riverstones to set up the semi-final clash against Allendale after they beat Lower Paarl.
In the Plate semi-final Roses United defeated Simondium to book their place in the final while Riverstones defeated Lower Paarl in a hard fought Chicago Derby. In the cup Section Young Peoples defeated Young Gardens while Allendale secured a win over Young Standards to set up an epic Cup Final against the Tigers.
Roses United clinched a 14-12 win over Riverstones in a tightly contested match to be crowned Plate winners. Young Standards took the honours over Young Gardens by 20-14 to take the Bronze.
In the Cup final Allandale defended their title of the Jive Young Gardens 7’s Tournament 2017 successfully by beating Young Peoples 29-12 after the half time score was 12-12. Allandale proved too strong at the end and retained their Gold Medal status.
