The Community Women Action (CWA) organisation in Eerste River is offering four to six month full-time and part-time classes for assistant-chefs, NQF Level 2.
The admission requirements are students with previous catering experience and if you’ve passed Gr 9 to Gr 12.
“Our hands-on training prepares you to work in the food industry at guest houses, bed-and-breakfast establishments, hotels, fast food outlets, private catering companies and restaurants,” said Maria Justus of the CWA.
Students are instructed in food preparation and cooking across a full range; in knife skills, food service (for instance how to set tables and serve food), menu planning, recipes and recipe costing, basic entrepreneurial skills (including marketing and costing) and generic essentials such as personal health, hygiene and workplace safety, she added. “On successful completion, students obtain an NQF Level 2 qualification entitled Catering Course: Assistant Chef. The programme is offered at the CWA and any course information is available on 021 904 1990,” Justus said.
