The long-awaited Middelpos Primary is expected to open its doors next Wednesday.
The new school in Middelpos, Saldanha will be an isiXhosa medium school starting with 310 learners and eight educators.
These learners and their teachers have been attending Diazville Primary since the start of the school year.
The move to the new school site was delayed for the last few months as the prefab classrooms from which the school will operate did not arrive on time.
Parents and the community of Middelpos have been asking the department of education for an isiXhosa school for years. There has been an increasing need for isiXhosa medium schools in the region due to the influx of Xhosa-speakers.
Masiphatisane Primary in Vredenburg is the only primary school catering for IsiXhosa mother tongue speakers from Grade 1 to 7 and has been bursting at the seams for years. Diazville Primary in Saldanha and St Helena Primary are the only other primary schools with Grade R and 1 isiXhosa classes.
