- The Hope Life Project, which forms part of the House of Hope Community Life Development Programme, has five service functions, which are free and confidential: Sexual and reproductive health education (small groups and schools):
- They provide the youth with accurate information regarding sexually transmitted infections, HIV and abor-tion in a way that does not shy away from the reality of the consequences of irresponsible sexual behaviour. Crisis pregnancy counselling:
- They offer crisis counselling and support to women and girls who go through unplanned pregnancies. Counselling and support for the sexually abused or raped:
- They offer immediate support to victims of rape or sexual violence, as well as long-term counselling and support groups for survivors of sexual abuse or sexual violence. Support groups for substance abuse:
- Weekly support groups for persons addicted to illegal substances as well as their loved ones. Quarterly training (R120 per person):
This aims to empower people who work with children. Topics are signs of drug abuse, signs of sexual abuse, study methods and more.
“More and more young people are exposed to and engaging in irresponsible sexual behaviour and substance abuse. Hope Life aims to change the lives of children and youth in the Goldfields by empowering and supporting them to make informed decisions on their sexuality and values,” says Romien Joubert, supervisor.
