• 1 ham with skin on (about 4 kg)
  • 2 carrots, cut into large chunks
  • 1 onion with 6 cloves pressed into it
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 5 whole grains of pepper

  • 250 ml apple or lemon juice
  • 30 ml brown sugar
  • 30 ml honey
  • 5 ml ginger

Place ham in a large saucepan and cover with cold water. Add all the other ingredients and bring to the boil on the stove. The boiling time will depend on the weight of the ham. Boil it for 30 minutes for every 500 g. When the desired cooking time has passed, remove the saucepan from the heat. Allow to cool in the water for at least half an hour. Remove the ham carefully and remove the skin. Cut crosses into the fatty part of the ham and press a clove into each square. Place the ham in a large oven dish. Mix the ingredients for the glaze. Heat in a saucepan and stir until sugar has dissolved. Pour the glaze over the ham and place ham in an oven that has been heated to 180°C. Bake ham for 1 hour and baste with the glaze every now and then. Serve ham hot or cold. Garnish with fresh cherries.

Good to know

Calculate how long your ham should be cooked. Then subtract one hour, because it will bake for an hour in the oven. For example, if the ham weighs 4 kg, it should cook for 4 hours, but now you'll cook it for 3 hours, because it will be in the oven for the last hour.
