  • 3 slices brown bread
  • 250 ml milk
  • 500 g mince
  • 500 g pork mince
  • 250 ml haricot beans
  • 1 egg, whisked
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 25 ml Worcestershire sauce
  • 50 ml chutney
  • 10 potatoes, peeled
  • 50 ml butter
  • 25 ml warm milk

Heat oven to 180ºC. Soak bread in milk until soft. Mash. Mix all ingredients except chutney, potatoes, butter and milk. Season with salt and pepper. You can use bowls of different sizes, or just one large bowl. Put in warm oven and bake for 1 hour. In the meantime, boil potatoes until soft. Mash and add butter. Mix well. Add warm milk and season with salt and pepper. Take cottage pie from oven and top with chutney. Spoon mashed potatoes on top and return to oven. Bake until top has browned.
