Gourmets & Gourmands 27 August 2011 – good food, grand wines and a great cause It is almost unreal to think that winter 2011 is upon us already, but for snuggle bugs all around it is extremely exciting, especially in George. Two reasons spring to mind immediately – cold winter nights curled up next to a log fire, a braai or a gas heater (which ever category may appeal most to your cuddly personality) and of course the countdown that’s beginning to the food fest at the Carpe Diem Dine Divine Gourmets & Gourmands evening. Totally taking the chill out of winter, this annual event is once again out to tantalise the taste buds and captivate even the grumpiest of connoisseurs as 16 restaurants are tasked to prepare a delectable menu to treat 160 guests to the culinary experience of a lifetime. As per Gourmets & Gourmands tradition the restaurants are pairing with wine farms to enlighten guests on the very popular and very current theme of food and wine pairing. This year a new theme has been added and Modelvision will be supplying masks for the event. Restaurants and wine farms are already planning menus and preparing exciting pairings for the event on 28 August 2011. The delectable restaurant-wine farm sponsors are: SACA-Barrrydale; Transkaroo - Hartenberg; Protea King George - Ken Forrester wines; Kafé Serefe – Boskloof; The rose – Graham Beck; La Loconda – Ondine; Chef Alma – Gabrielskloof; Buffelsdrift – Karusa; Top Two – Kaapzicht; Calorossa – Ladismith Wines; Su Casa – Diemersfontein; House of Flavour – Seven Oaks; Pomodore – Steenberg; Rosenhof – Weltevrede; The Gannet – Bon Courage; Pelican Lodge – Wineworx. Owner of NLR Wines, Nell-Marie Le Roux, who represents some of the wine farms involved, says that the excitement surrounding the event is palpable. “Wine farms and restaurants are going all out to make this evening a celebration of note to toast not only the great work done at the Carpe Diem School, but also join in the festivities celebrating the 200’th birthday of George.” After the continued success of the event, Carpe Diem School decided to create an umbrella brand for all their culinary events, including Gourmets & Gourmands. In March 2011, Dine Divine was launched and has already hosted a very successful Brandy Evening on the 13’th of May. Lovers of fine food can look forward to many more mouth-watering events under the banner of this flavour umbrella and are encouraged to watch the press for details to avoid disappointment.
