Our tour starts at Mlilwane Nature Reserve, where the Riley family laid the foundation for Swaziland’s nature conservation. We settle in and explore the camp before we meet around the fire to enjoy a Bhejane dinner.
We explore Mlilwane and the surrounding Ezulwini Valley. We follow a 4x4 route into the hills surrounding Nyonyane Mountain to Execution Rock. After a tasty brunch, you’ll have a chance to explore the reserve and buy some of the country’s famous handmade candles, woven grass mats, baskets and handmade arts and crafts from the area.
After breakfast, we visit a village to experience the traditional Swazi lifestyle. Then we head east towards the Lowveld region of the country, where Hlane Royal National Park will be our home for two nights.
We spend our time in Hlane experiencing the animals and bird life of the Swaziland Lowveld (Hlane is home to the largest breeding colony of white-backed vultures in Southern Africa.) Late afternoon we go on an open-vehicle game drive looking for wildlife, including white rhino, elephant and lion.
A scenic 4x4 route takes us across the mountains, where the only signs of civilization you’ll see are some cattle. We enjoy a delicious lunch in the refreshing mountain air along with breathtaking views. Then we visit a unique geological phenomenon known as The Gap in the Nkomazi River.
After breakfast, we head towards Phophonyane Falls. We go on hike alongside a magnificent waterfall rumbling down a massive granite rock face. Riverine forests promise some great birding. After lunch we head back towards camp and go on a sunset boat cruise.
After a final hearty breakfast it’s time for our goodbyes, but there will still be a chance to enjoy some more of the Swazi Kingdom’s beautiful scenery on the way home.
