Artist’s work features

A painting by Free State artist Victor Geduldt is among the top 40 of this year’s Art Bank of South Africa (Abosa) Free State exhibition at the Oliewenhuis Art Museum.

Geduldt’s painting After School was purchased by Abosa for the 2020 exhibition, running from Thursday (20/02) to 3 May.

Abosa’s project manager, Sheryl Msomi, said a panel chose 40 pieces out of 229 submissions.

This year’s theme is “Becoming: what is and what is not – New Acquisitions of the Art Bank of South Africa”.

Abosa also purchased the work of four local artists in 2019: Geduldt, Mothobi Mefane, Daniel Ramontseng and Lazarus Ramontseng. Prices ranged from R1 500 to R52 000.

Abosa is a national programme of the Department of Arts and Culture, as a part of the Mzansi Golden Economy strategy implementation, and is hosted by the National Museum Bloemfontein, an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture.

Its vision is to promote, foster and stimulate a vibrant market for the collection of South African contemporary visual art.
