Bloem equestrian impresses

A learner from Bloemfontein excelled at the Kimberley Equestrian Centre’s (KEC) first equestrian event for the year on 7 to 8 March.

Chrisilee Rossouw of the Fichardtpark Primary School received a first place rosette for equitation at the event. She took part in the category 10 years and older in the lead rein class.

This was run as an interprovincial show combining riders from the Free State and Northern Cape.

A total of 82 horses competed, 19 from the Northern Cape and 63 from the Free State.

Pupils from 18 different schools competed in the show.

The show included all the disciplines of English riding, namely dressage, show jumping, showing and equitation. The South African National Equestrian Schools Association (Sanesa) has a development programme whereby they sponsor riders to encourage the growth of the sport throughout the community.

The show also included a groom’s handler class which provides the grooms with an opportunity to demonstrate their skill in horse handling and turnout.

It was a fun event and provided the spectators with ample exciting entertainment over the weekend. A number of these shows are usually scheduled throughout the year at KEC.

KEC also offers outrides and has a riding school geared towards training beginners and development. – Natalie Birch
