With the 2019 election looming, taxpayers can expect an element of good news in the budget speech on Wednesday, 20 February.
This is the view of Daniel Silke, political futures consultant and main speaker at this year’s PSG/Athalia Business Breakfast, to be held at Magic Events in Kelly’s View on Monday, 25 February.
Silke says the 2019 elections may cause the budget in February to be more of a filler budget with a mini-budget addressing policy issues sometime after the election.
Seeing the poor state of the economy, Silke says it will be interesting to see how the government plan to bail out state-owned enterprises like Eskom, SAA and Transnet.
He says consumers are feeling the strain of what is in their pockets and they will be looking forward to some good news.
With the ruling ANC under severe pressure, Silke predicts a high degree of political tension in the next couple of months.
Come and hear Silke’s take on the State of the Nation Address by President Cyril Ramaphosa, as well as on the budget speech by Finance Minister Tito Mboweni.
Lillian Zaaiman and Riaan Schoeman of the Dinamiese Netwerk Bemarking will talk to guests about good business principles.
The breakfast will start at 07:30 for 08:00 and tickets cost R250 or R2 500 for a table of ten guests.
Radio Rosestad and Bloemnews are the media sponsors for this event.
