Entries now open for Free State Cycle Tour

Start training for the biggest funride in Bloemfontein.

Entries have now opened for the Free State Cycle Tour (previously known as the Mangaung Cycle Tour).

The event will be in its sixth year since the Pedal Power Association (PPA) stepped in as the organiser in 2014.

The iconic Free State event on Sunday, 3 November, will again be a premier seeding series event for the 2020 Cape Town Cycle Tour (CTCT), giving all enthusiastic road cyclists the opportunity to improve their seeding status.

“We are looking forward to host cyclists from across the country at the event,” said PPA CEO Robert Vogel.

“We don’t want road cyclists to miss out on the opportunity of a local seeding series event.

“We especially encourage cyclists from the Free State and nearby provinces to join us in November in Bloemfontein,” he said.

This year the 105 km route will take cyclists from the School of Armour at the Tempe Military base, out on the N1 and onto the Glen Road loop where they will cycle through some woodlands and experience the peacefulness of the Free State countryside.

The route then turns left onto the R30 Brandfort Road heading back to Bloemfontein on the N1 via Nelson Mandela Drive. There will also be a shorter 37 km distance for fun riders.

This year, the PPA will specifically place emphasis on creating awareness amongst motorists on the route through its safe cycling campaign: “Stay Wider of the Rider”.

PPA members receive a discount on the entry fee. One of the most valued PPA member benefits is a guaranteed entry to the CTCT which currently works on a ballot system. For more details on PPA membership visit www.pedalpower.org. za

Pre-entries are now available at www.cycleevents.co.za and will close on 25 October. Late entries will be taken during registration on Friday, 1 November, and Saturday, 2 November, at Kloppers at the Loch Logan Waterfront.
