India first winner in ICC Cup

An impressive batting performance, followed by disciplined bowling, saw defending champions India cruise to a 90 run victory over Sri Lanka in their opening group encounter in the International Cricket Council (ICC) u.19 World Cup on Sunday (19/01) at the Mangaung Oval.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field, a decision they will most likely regret as they did not get any early wickets.

India scored 297 for 4 in their allotted 50 overs and bowled Sri Lanka out for 207 runs.

The player of the match was India’s Siddhesh Veer, who scored 44 off just 27 deliveries and then took 2/34 in six overs.

Six group stage games in total will be played at the Mangaung Oval. Entrance to all the games is free.

The most anticipated game at this oval is the one between South Africa and the United Arab Emirates on Saturday (25/01).
