‘16 Days’ campaign launched

The annual 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children began in the Overberg on Wednesday.

Grabouw Community Police Forum (CPF), in conjunction with the Grabouw police service, hosted an event in the community to create awareness. “Instead of hosting the event in a hall, it was decided, rather, to bring the event to the community and show them that the police members are approachable people, keen to help them bring down crime in these areas,” said David Williams, chair of Grabouw CPF.

He said violence against women and children isn’t always visible. “It happens mostly in the home, so today’s speakers will use faith to encourage victims to come forward and report these crimes,” Williams said.

In Caledon, police and provincial traffic devoted two roadblocks to promoting awareness of the campaign.
