50% of Langebergers vote

An atmosphere of excitement, joy and hope reigned across the Langeberg on Wednesday 8 May, as many Langebergers went to the polls to exercise their democratic right to vote in the general election.

Although many were sceptical and, at the last minute, still indecisive about whom to vote for, a number of voters hoped their party would win.

It was clear that the parties were going all out, as they fiercely canvassed at the different voting districts across the Langeberg, entertaining voters with music, and even provided food and drink.

Altogether 43 508 people registered to vote in the Langeberg, of whom only 24 821 voted, leaving the total votes over 50%.

Of the 24 821 votes cast, 24 606 were valid and 244 spoilt.

While the DA received the majority votes in the Langeberg its votes decline by 244. This year it received 13 520 votes, compared to 2014’s 13 764.

The second-most votes went to the ANC, with 7 344 voters casting their votes for the national leaders, a decline of 2 077 votes, compared to its 9 421 in 2014.

New kids on the block the Good Party received an astounding 670 votes, which some pundits think is a very good start for a new party.

But it was the FF-plus that won a number of Langebergers over, as the party reeled in 615 votes, a more than 100% improvement on its 297 votes in 2014.

No reports of violence were reported across the Langeberg at the time of going to print, and according to officials voting went smoothly and peacefully in the region.

Many young people who headed to the polls to cast their votes for the very first time were positive about the election.

Older voters said that this time their votes went for change and a better future.
