Amnesty boosts gun handover

As a result of the police service’s Amnesty 2019-’20 the firearm office at its Robertson station has experienced a huge influx of applications for 2020.

The Covid-19 lockdown complicated the situation further with the arrangement of police service duties. The station had no other choice than to limit its services for the time being until the matter was resolved.

The administration and preparation of each application is a time consuming process. The firearm office will be available for receiving applications and enquiries for two days of the week, which will be on Mondays and Tuesdays from 08:30 to 16:00.

Please bear in mind the office has a half-an-hour lunch break, from 13:00 to 13:30.

Only people with extraordinary circumstances will be accommodated on appointment on the other three remaining days of the week. This will be implemented from 17 August until the office is up to date. It estimates all administrative matters will be resolved at November’s end. So the time frame is from September to November.

With an eye on the extension of the amnesty the police plead with firearm owners not to wait until the last day of the amnesty. Its extension is from 1 August until 31 January 2021.

From 1 December the firearm office will be available from Monday to Friday during normal office hours, which are from 08:00 to 16:00.
