Crèches receive ECD kits from council

The Cape Winelands District Municipality’s (CWDM) Community Development and Planning Services recently identified 31 early childhood development (ECD) centres throughout the district that applied to the municipality for funding of educational activities and toys.

Each centre received an ECD kit to the value of R6 429. The homes for the elderly received 500 adult nappies, which were distributed according to each organisation’s needs.

“We are so grateful to the Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM),” said Cheronica du Preez of Spring Roses Care Centre for the Elderly in Ashton. “Whenever we hear about a municipality it’s the CWDM. The Golden Games is the highlight of the year. Thank you very much for all the municipality’s care for the elderly and the effort made.” With these words she thanked the municipality for their donation of adult diapers.

Dirk Swart, Deputy Mayor of the CWDM, engaged with the ECD managers of Zwelethemba, who explained that using fire retardant paint is a prerequisite for obtaining a Fire Safety Certificate, which in turn allows them to register as ECD centres.

Swart said funds had been set aside in the budget for the 2018/’19 financial year to assist with the painting of ECD centres. He reminded those present to ensure they were registered with the municipality so funding could be considered.

“The promotion and support of early childhood development will continue receiving attention from the CWDM as part of the organisation’s vision of sustainable economic development,” Swart said.
