ECD rooms launched

What was just a dream to help her community became a reality when Lulama Nentsa officially launched the Olothando ECD and Aftercare Centre in Nkqubela on Wednesday 5 June.

This she did with the help of Breadline Africa, which sponsored three shipping containers to be used as classrooms.

Nentsa started the centre in her garage, and over time as the group grew used one of her children’s bedrooms as a classroom. She said: “I am humbled by the opportunity and kind gesture of Breadline Africa to give us the three containers. As I look back on our humble beginnings, I can only thank God for this blessing.

“All I want to do is help my community. I saw the need for an ECD and Aftercare, and wanted to respond. I didn’t think it would become so big.”

Puleng Phooko, Programme Manager of Breadline Africa, spoke of the funder’s own sense of honour in helping. She said: “It is fitting that the centre’s name means loving, as we need more of these institutions in our community.

“We choose only high-quality ECDs to help, as our funders are very picky about their investments. It is also fitting that this is Child Protection Week, when we highlight the vulnerability of this group. Today we celebrate not only this ECD, but also the lives of its kids.

“May this ECD and Aftercare Centre be a beacon of hope for the community, a place of safety, living up to its name. We are happy that we could help spread that love today. We think you do amazing work, and wish you all the best for the future.”
