New Bot River recycling facility
At the 10th birthday celebration of Lucky Point we

Lucky Point Recycling in Bot River celebrated 10 years of recycling on Friday, with commencement of a new building on 1 August.

Margrit Schwendimann, benefactor of Lucky Point, said a dream was being realised. The organisation supports a crèche, which currently looks after 35 children.

Lucky Point supports two after-care facilities and feeds 120-160 children, Mondays to Fridays. Collecting items for recycling, youths can earn points and be rewarded. “Thirty bags of recycling earns 1 000 points,” Schwendimann explained.

On Friday, 40 bicycles were given to youth who earned their points. “This recycling project teaches children that nothing in life is free. If I want something I have to work for it, and if I’m determined and focused I can get a bicycle.” The children each received a T-shirt and a meal.

The facility’s completion date is mid-December.
