Several rape cases are being investigated by Paarl East police.

A 47-year-old man from the New Dromedaries Houses was arrested for rape. It is alleged he attacked a 26-year-old woman on Friday 4 May at 22:00 at his house.

According to a police statement, both the victim and suspect were consuming alcohol, when the assault took place before the victim was about to leave.

Police spokesperson Sgt Nceba Vanqa said: “The suspect allegedly asked the victim for sex. When she refused he started assaulting her with a hammer and scratched her face.

“The victim lost consciousness, woke up later and went home, where she realised she had been raped.”

The suspect was arrested and appeared in the Paarl Magistrate Court on Wednesday 9 May on a charge of rape.

On Saturday 5 May at 23:00 a 33-year-old woman from Project 2 was raped in Silvertown, Mbekweni.
