Sick dog taken from owner

The Swartland SPCA recently obtained a warrant to remove a sick dog from its careless owner.

According to a statement, Inspector Stephanie Fortuin was informed of a very thin, sick dog in Darling.

The owner’s mother told her the dog had been taken to a vet, where she was told that the dog had a heart problem, and there was something wrong with his throat.

Apparently the veterinarian had also told the owner that the dog should get three small meals a day.

The owner was given a warning that the dog needed to be taken to the vet within 48 hours, and if she did not have the money to do so she could surrender the dog to the SPCA.

The 48 hours elapsed and the dog had not been taken to the vet. Fortuin decided enough was enough and stepped into action. She went to court in Malmesbury and obtained a warrant to enter the property.

Two police officers accompanied her to confront the “very aggressive mother and daughter”, the statement read. Fortuin removed the dog and placed him in her vehicle.

The daughter refused to take the seizure notice. At this point the police officer said he would give her the seizure notice as the dog needed to be taken to the vet for immediate veterinary treatment.

With much needed love and care the dog, called Bobstone, is being nurtured back to health.

Fortuin is currently preparing her docket and will be laying charges against the owner.

The SPCA warns that any person who, being the owner of any animal, fails to render or procure veterinary or other treatment for any animal in need of such treatment, is actually breaking the law.
