Violent crime has increased dramatically in Theewaterskloof and Cape Agulhas this year. The annual national crime statistics were released on 12 September for the period covering April 2018 to March this year.
Caledon showed an increase of 83,3% in sexual assault cases. In Genadendal rape is up by 300%. In Bredasdorp attempted murder is up by 120% with 22 cases reported in 2018-19 vs 10 cases the previous financial year.
Contact sexual offences are three cases higher this year, with none reported the previous year. Sexual assault up 500% in Struisbaai.
