Wish list for animals in need

The local SPCA has recently launched a campaign asking for donations as part of their Christmas wish list in aid to make Christmas a special time for all the animals in care at the SPCA.

The Winelands SPCA working in the Langeberg Municipal area covering Robertson, McGregor, Ashton, Bonnievale, Montagu and surrounding farm districts want to make this time of year a special one for their animals.

The SPCA’s mission is to improve the lives of all animals in this district – through education, spaying and neutering, and finding new homes for unwanted animals. Their area of operation is large and they cannot do the work without the support of the community.

There are many ways to assist, by volunteering, by regular donation, by supporting their regularly held markets, by assisting with fund raising or by just making contact with the SPCA.

On the SPCA’s Christmas wish list the following items are in need at the SPCA. Kennels (new or used), brooms, hosepipes, cat and dog toys, cat scratching posts, wet and dry pet food, cat litter trays, spray bottles for disinfectants, laundry washing powder. The staff also have their own Christmas wish list consisting of basics like coffee, tea, sugar, A4 copy paper, notepads and ink.

Every Saturday from 08:30 until 12:30 the SPCA hosts a flee market in Montagu. Collars, leads and harnesses in all sizes, specially made for the SPCA are sold at the market.

Barkers Biscuits baked freshly every week. These have become very popular and generally sell out well before closing time. Pets are welcome to join every Saturday at the Montagu Village Market.

For more information on donation, adoption or information regarding the market, please contact the Winelands SPCA situated between Ashton and Montagu on 023 615 2241.

They are open on weekdays and Saturdays by appointment.
