Promotional League kicked off

The SAFA Cape Winelands Promotional League play-offs took place on the weekend of 1 to 2 October from 09:00 till 17:00 at the Boy Louw Sport Fields in Paarl.

The promotional league is fully sponsored and administered by SAFA Cape Winelands and had 16 teams in the five Local Football Associations (LFA’s) competing for the honours.

The winners from the five LFA’s were battling against each other to gain promotion to the SAB League.

Apart from the promotion to the SAB League the winners receive a trophy, gold medals, some cash as well as soccer kit.

SAFA Cape Winelands Competitions Chairman Richard Poole says: “There was a lot at stake for these teams as they were playing the whole season in the respective LFA’s to reach the play-offs.

“As a region we have made innovative ways of enhancing the team’s participation in this competition, so we were expecting a real football battle.”

“These play-offs were a stage for showcasing our local talent as well as the level and standard of football in the region,” says Mlungisi Bushwana, SAFA Cape Winelands president.

“The five participating teams came from different areas in terms of football infrastructure accessibility, but they displayed real fireworks on the field of play.”

The participating teams were De Nova United (Stellenbosch) Zolani United F.C (Langeberg), Zwelethemba All Stars (Breedevalley), Spoilers F.C (Drakenstein LFA) and City XI Stars (Witzenberg LFA).

The winners of the round robin style tournament are Spoilers F.C from Paarl under the Drakenstein LFA, followed by De Nova United from the Stellenbosch LFA in second spot. Both teams gain promotion to the SAB Regional League due to start on Saturday 15 October.
