Contact crime down in Strand

Crime statistics for the Strand Police Station over the quarterly period April to June 2020 show the only increases across all crime categories were that of common robbery, shoplifting and burglary at non-residential premises.

Common robbery increased by 22% – from 18 cases to 22, burglary at non-residential premises by 48,7% – from 39 to 58 cases, and shoplifting by 38,5% – from 13 cases to 18.

Statistics for all other crime categories showed decreases and some were unchanged.

Murder was down by 44,4%, sexual offences down by 62,5% and robbery with aggravating circumstances was down by 19,2%.

Rape was down by 80%, from five cases reported during the same period last year to one case this year.

In total, sexual offences decreased by 62,5%, from 8 cases to three cases for the same period.

There was one case of carjacking reported as opposed to two cases last year, robbery at residential premises remain unchanged at three cases, while cases of arson decreased by a staggering 75%. Malicious damage to property is down by 41,4%, from 68 cases over the same period last year to 48 cases this year.

Burglaries at residential premises saw a decline from 91 cases last year to 56 cases this year, a decrease of 38%. Theft of motor vehicles and motor cycles was down 51,4%, and theft out of motor vehicles was down 38,3%.

Drug related crimes were also down by 65% and driving under the influence was down by 68%.
