Police launched a search for Michael Latsky, who mysteriously disappeared more than five months ago, last weekend (9 to 11 October).
It was one of two searches initiated in the hopes of locating the 43-year-old who left his Somerset West residence and never returned after going for a bicycle ride around 17:00 on Thursday 14 May. Latsky has not been seen or heard of since (“Search for cyclist continues”, DistrictMail, 30 July).
According to Sergeant Suzan Jantjies, spokesperson for Somerset West police, the most recent search comes after the investigating officer received an anonymous voice note with information that could aid the missing person’s case.
Sources say the suspected informant allegedly showed police where the body of Latsky could be found and resulted in authorities digging up grounds in Gordon’s Bay and its surrounds.
Jantjies said members of the organised crime unit and a team of detectives engaged in the search operation around the seaside village over the weekend, which was fruitless and unsuccessful. “No arrests were made and no body found,” Jantjies confirmed, adding that the police investigation continues.
“The police would like to appeal to the community to be more cautious about sending unverified information. These actions lead to wasteful expenditure.”
