Libraries extend service offerings

Some libraries within the municipal boundaries of the City of Cape Town have extended their service offerings.

From Monday (5 October), the Lwandle, Macassar, Strand and Suiderstrand libraries now offer a drop-and-collect service, study access and SmartCape access, while the Sir Lowry’s Pass Library offers two of the services, the drop-and-collect service and SmartCape access.

Gordon’s Bay Library still offers only the drop-off and collection of library materials, and the Somerset West Library remains closed due to maintenance of the facility.

Browsing for books is still not permitted, and the libraries offering study access will allow a limited number of students into libraries for two-hour sessions on a first-come first-served basis.

Those now offering the SmartCape access will allow for 45-minute sessions per user – all on the same basis.

The study access will be granted in three sessions per day, with 15 minutes between sessions to allow for the cleaning and sanitising of surfaces. These sessions will run from 09:00 to 11:00, from 11:15 to 13:15 and 13:30 to 15:30.

All people entering a library will be screened and required to wear a mask, sanitise their hands and adhere to social distancing protocols.

The libraries will be open from 09:00 to 16:00 weekdays and from 09:00 to noon Saturdays.
