Macassar crime is down

Crime on almost all fronts decreased in Macassar in the first quarter.

Total contact crimes decreased by 58,6% with cases down from 239 as reported to Macassar Police Station from April to June last year to 99 for the same period this year.

Incidents of murder achieved a plateau at four, while a decrease was noted in cases of sexual offences by 10% (from 10 to nine), attempted murder 50% (from two to one), assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm by 45,9% (from 61 to 33).

Common assault is down by 63,9% (from 108 to 39), common robbery by 81,3% (from 16 to three) and robbery with aggravating circumstances by 73,7% (from 38 to 10).

Cases of carjacking decreased by 100% (down from two to zero) and robbery at residential premises decreased by 66,7% (down from three to one).

Contact-related crime decreased with arson by 33,3% (down from three to two) and malicious damage to property by 53,8% (down from 80 to 37).

The total property related crimes decreased by 51,6% with 64 less cases reported this year in comparison to last year’s 124.

Incidents of burglary at residential premises decreased by 61,1% (down from 90 to 35), theft from motor vehicle decreased by 34,8% (down to 15 from 23) and stock theft decreased by 66, 7% (down from three to one).

The total other serious showed a decrease of 41,3% (down from 138 to 81) and total community reported serious crimes decreased by 52,2% (down from 584 to 279).

The only increases were in contact sexual offences (up two from the previous period’s zero), robbery at non-residential premises (up from one to four), and theft of motor vehicle and motorcycle (up from zero to one).

Total crime detected as a result of police action decreased by a significant 70,2% with 17 cases reported this year in comparison with last year’s 57.

Illegal possession of firearms and ammunition is down by 75% (from four to one), drug-related crime is down by 58,1% (from 31 to 13) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is down by 86,4% (from 22 to 3).
