Rusthof learners get laptops

Western Cape Minister of Finance Dr Ivan Meyer, member of Parliament for Helderberg, Thandeka Gqada and Dean Wang of the Taipei (Taiwan) Liaison Office in Cape Town gifted computers to learners of Rusthof Secondary School in Strand.

The donation, which was facilitated by Meyer, and made possible through the kind generosity of the Taiwanese government, will strengthen the school’s ability to prepare learners for the economy and the world of knowledge as part of the fourth industrial revolution.

“The use of computers in the classroom develops research skills, broadens one’s knowledge, and not only exposes the learner to a number of computer programmes, but also teaches them to manipulate computer programmes in the pursuit of information and knowledge.” said Meyer.

Wang expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the development of South African learners.

“Taiwan is one of the world’s leading producers of information and communication technological products,” he said. “The World Economic Forum ranks Taiwan 15th out of 137 economies in the Global Competitiveness Report. Today we share some of our success with the learners.”

“The computers will enrich teaching and learning,” said principal of Rusthof Secondary School Joanne Adams. “The community of the Helderberg is indeed grateful.”
