A 24-year-old DJ was killed at a tavern where he worked in Asanda Village late on Saturday evening.
It is alleged that Siyabulela Khuphiso finished his set and went to the bathroom where he was fatally stabbed.
Now his mother Nomalungelo Khuphiso, a Nomzamo resident, wants answers about the circumstances surrounding the death of her firstborn child.
“No-one has told us anything,” she sobbed. “We only know the brief story we were told by the police, who informed us that my son was killed. No-one from the tavern where he was playing came to our home to explain what had happened. I want to know what happened to my son.”
She also wants Siyabulela’s girlfriend, apparently with him at the time of the tragedy, to visit and explain what happened.
Lina Phoso is still shocked by her grandson’s sudden death.
“I suddenly got a severe headache when I heard the news that Siyabulela is no more,” she said.
“He was a quiet child who never sulked when he was disciplined. He showed his love for music when he was still at high school. We do not know who would do such a thing.”
Younger brother Luphelo said Siyabulela dreamt of becoming a famous DJ.
“He dreamt of playing music in popular places and wanted to be well known for his mixes,” the 18-year-old related.
The heartbroken mother spoke of her deceased son’s unconditional love. “He loved me very much and always showed me that. I remember when he won a competition, and I was part of the crowd, he called me on stage to accept the prize. It is painful to accept that he is no more,” Nomalungelo said.
No-one has come forward with information of the identity of Siyabulela’s killer, police confirmed, adding that anyone with information should share it with them.
“We can confirm the death of a 24-year-old male stabbed on Saturday. Police were called to attend a stabbing incident at a tavern and, on their arrival, they were informed that the person who was stabbed had been taken to a nearby hospital,” said provincial police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk.
The police officers immediately went to the hospital to check on the victim, where hospital staff informed them that he sustained a stab wound to the chest.
The motive for this incident is still unknown at this stage.
Van Wyk confirmed no arrests have been made. “A murder case docket was opened and is currently being investigated by Lwandle police detectives. Anyone with information can phone the investigating officer, Detective Constable Mfundo Soyiyo, on 021 845 2060 or 082 522 1208.”
