Country’s top bowls players to gather in H’berg

The Helderberg Bowls Club will be a hive of activity this coming weekend with the finals of the King/Queen of the Rink National Singles Tournament at the club on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 July.

Twenty-four of South Africa’s top bowlers made it to finals following months of qualifying tournaments held across the country.

The competition is open to anyone registered with Bowls South Africa, irrespective of gender.

The goal of the tournament is to determine the champion bowler in South Africa whether they be male or female.

Some of the players who will showcase their talents are:

. Colleen Piketh – Protea player, South African legend and multiple international medal winner, the latest being the pairs gold with partner Nici Neal at the Atlantic Championships

. Anneke Snyman – Protea player. At 24, the youngest player to skip a national side and lead her team to a silver medal at the recent Atlantic Championships, won the Boland Masters for the fifth time in April.

. Wayne Rittmuller – Protea player. The two-time national champion recently earned his 50th cap representing his country

. Alan Lofthouse – Former Protea player and defending champion of the King/Queen of the Rink tournament.

Not only do these players compete for the coveted King/Queen of the Rink belt, but for the richest cash prize for a bowls singles tournament, totalling more than R30 000.

V Entry is free and play starts at 09:00. For more information, phone Helderberg Bowls Club on 021 852 2765.
