HHCC thrash SWCC in Ama20 game

Hottentots Holland Cricket Club outplayed neighbours Somerset West Cricket Club to record a three-wicket victory in an Ama20 league encounter in Kuils River on Saturday 27 October.

The Somerset West side set their opponents a target of 102 in their allotted 20 overs.

SWCC was under tremendous pressure when their opening batters lost their wickets for only eight runs on the scoreboard. Top scorer Jacques Fourie (38) had to stabilise the innings for SWCC.

Despite clinical and excellent bowling from the HHCC bowling attack, Fourie held his nerve. He was well supported by Simeone Lombaard (23) and Michael Osborn (21).

But this was about the highlight for the SWCC batting order. Waleed Martin (2/24) and Gasant Moller (2/7) were the pick of the HHCC bowlers. Their figures are a testament to the disciplined bowling from the men from Strand.

Rasool Thomas top-scored not only for HHCC, but also for the entire match. The number-four batter knocked a brilliant 58 to hand the momentum to HHCC. His contribution was especially valuable, given that the opening batter only managed to rack up 22 runs before losing their wickets.

There was not much to speak of on the HHCC side following Thomas’ half-century, with no other HHCC batter getting into double figures. His 50 even proved to be the significant factor on the outcome of the match.

Osborn (3/28) was the pick of the SWCC bowlers, while Gouws Koen and E Geldenhuys claiming two wickets each. In the end, HHCC won the match by three wickets with 3.4 overs remaining – a hard-fought victory in a match that both sides will most certainly remember for years to come.

The SWCC ladies side travelled to Pollsmoor Prison to claim a hard-fought 12-run victory over their Pollsmoor CC counterparts.

SWCC batted first and set the hosts a rather low target of 60; Luwalle Fisher (30*) was the top performer with the bat.

Despite the low target, the SWCC women were in fine form and their bowlers ripped through the Pollsmoor batting line-up and bowled them out for just 48. Aileen van Heerden claimed 3/12 in her four overs.

The HHCC women’s team came up short in their match against Fish Hoek CC. Fish Hoek CC batted first and scored 171/6 in their 20 overs. The HHCC women, in turn, only managed to score 108/3 in their 20 overs. M Bazier (26) and R Hopkins (26) were the best HHCC batters.
