Loads of action this weekend

Congratulations to Raithby Universals who qualified for the regional Top 9 competition last week.

They have shown good character by lifting themselves after a disappointing 2017 season. The Top 9 competition will start on Saturday 8 September and I want to wish them the best of luck.

Sir Lowrians and Strand have this weekend off after Strand got yet another last-minute victory over Langa on the road. Strand are performing well going into the home straight of the season.

This weekend’s fixtures are as follows:

  • St George’s vs UCT (Gustrouw)

The Lulu Boys, who are currently in 14th place on the Super League A log, go into this weekend on the back of arguably the toughest week of fixtures in the club’s history, having played False Bay last Saturday, Maties last night (Wednesday) and now UCT this Saturday. The current situation doesn’t look good for them to survive in this league, but this won’t stop the Lulus from throwing everything at an inconsistent UCT. The students will want to consolidate their top-six position on log.

Prediction: St George’s to lose by 10 or more.

  • Macassar vs Kylemore (Macassar)

The MC Boys have been unstoppable at their homeground this season and will want to maintain that record. They face a Kylemore side that can beat any team and will be real threat to the hosts. Kylemore have not clinched the third place on the log by being easy pushovers.

Prediction: Macassar will win by eight or more.

  • All Saints vs Hamlets (Helderzicht)

All Saints come off yet another defeat, but now get to play at home again, where they have always performed better. Placed 12th in Super league B, they are above struggling Hands & Heart, Kraaifontein and Pniel Villagers. I will go as far to say that another win will almost secure their Super League B status. Hamlets are a shadow of the team they were last season.

Prediction: All Saints will win by five or less.

  • Helderberg vs Young Peoples (Charles Morkel)

Berge are second in Super League B and are looking like serious contenders for promotion back to Super League A. They will consolidate their position with a win over Peoples. The visitors have blown hot and cold, but generally don’t do well when playing in Strand.

Prediction: Helderberg will win by 10 or more.

  • Strand United vs Scottsdene Central

United’s chances of a top-six promotion place finish is slipping away. The gap of the top-five is growing from position six, seven and Strand United, currently in eighth place. If positive results are not achieved soon, they will have to depend on other results. Scottsdene and United have a very competitive history and the visitors love playing at the Kraal. United will go into this match as my favourites, but they need to pull up their socks.

Prediction: United to win by eight or more.
