Philharmonic concert promises a night of laid-back sounds

The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO), with its highly regarded resident conductor Brandon Phillips, will be featured once more at Nederburg Wine Farm in Paarl to welcome the New Year.

Talents showcased by the CPO this time will be Brandon October and Melanie Scholtz, two of South Africa’s iconic singers. Goitsemang Lehobye (soprano) and Given Nkosi (tenor) will also add romance and charm. New to the line-up is Sterling EQ, an all-woman cross-over ensemble setting amplified instruments on fire. The master of ceremonies this year will be Sue Pyler, Radio Sonder Grense’s popular announcer.

With such a line-up, the CPO will deliver a night of laid-back classics, a romantic evening under the stars, lots of old-style charm and elegance.

The concert begins at 21:30. Gates open at 17:00 to enable concertgoers to choose their picnic spot. They may take their own picnic baskets along, but no alcoholic beverages are permitted. Available too will be gourmet snacks, as well as offerings from local food trucks. Bringing tables and chairs is also forbidden, as these interfere with sight lines of other patrons.

Tickets for the concert are R300 for adults, R175 for 12-18s and free for those under 12. They can be purchased through Computicket or Artscape Dial-a-Seat on 021 421 7695. The CPO will provide a bus service at 19:00 from Artscape in Cape Town, where safe parking will be available. Return tickets are R80 for adults, R30 for 18 and under (contact Luvuyo Kakaza on 021 410 9966 or luvuyo@cpo.org.za for more info).

Three DistrictMail readers stand a chance to win three double tickets to this event.

Simply SMS your name and surname, along with CPO, to 34421.
