Byron off to the Big Apple

The bright lights of New York are luring Byron McKeith (19) away from Ida’s Valley.

This up and coming entertainer has been awarded a partial scholarship at the New York Film Academy for a two year Musical Theatre diploma programme.

“I am glad about the opportunity that has come my way. It has always been a dream to further my studies and talent at one of the most prestigious schools in the world,” said McKeith.

His journey started last year. “I had my first audition in Cape Town where I did two monologues and one musical theatre song. This audition was presented to the New York Film Academy’s admission team. A couple of months later I got confirmation that I’ve been accepted at the New York Film Academy.

“I’ve received a partial scholarship; I still need to pay a certain amount. I have started a study fund, The McKeith Study Fund. I will be the first beneficiary, but the idea is to make this a fund available for many generations.”

McKeith, also a DJ at MFM Radio Station, said this has been his lifelong dream.

Byron will be hosting his second event, One Dance, in the Stellenbosch Town Hall on Friday 21 April at 19:30 in aid of his study fund. Tickets cost R100.
