Teens get a start at MFM radio school

During the recent holidays, MFM 92.6 in partnership with Stellenbosch University’s telematics services and Checkers, hosted their 17th annual Radio School at the MFM studios in the Neelsie Centre.

Around 30 youths between 16 and 18 were invited to receive radio training.

They were also provided with the opportunity to improve their skills in other media platforms, at no cost to the scholars.

The goal was to equip them with invaluable skills to give them an advantage should they wish to follow a career in radio.

The training sessions included teaching the learners in all areas of on-air presenting, producing, news reading, marketing, social media, as well as on- and off-air television training.

MFM 92.6 is proud to have hosted a successful winter school.

One of the station’s imperatives is to develop and groom young talent for the media industry.

The winter school allows the station to do this by enabling young learners who do not have funds available to them to be able to participate.

The aim of this initiative was to bring together 30 children who had one thing in common: a passion for media.

“This campaign was born of a passion to educate and for MFM to get more involved with our community,” MFM’s Station Manager, Veronique Smal, said.

“We are very proud of this initiative and we could not be happier with the outcome of the Radio School!

“We achieved everything we hoped for and more.

“Friendship bonds were formed and we uplifted and inspired our youth

“They all walked away with invaluable experience and received a demo from telematics services and MFM, showing off various abilities and potential.

“All the learners also received a certificate to illustrate the skills they have acquired throughout the training sessions.”

The learners were also offered a volunteer position at the station, should they wish to take their learning further and join the MFM family .
