African entrepreneurs to gather

Innovation and entrepreneurship are some of the topics to be discussed at the African Entrepreneurs Conference, to be held in Stellenbosch in October.

The conference is held under the guidance of Stellenbosch magazine and Nedbank at Stellenbosch Town Hall from 16 to 17 October.

Youth and women constitute the largest sector of the population in most African countries. The conference therefore seeks to explore, among other things, the impact of innovation on entrepreneurship, the role and relevance of education, strategies for entrepreneurial success, and how poverty in Africa can be alleviated through entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship has been seen as one of the solutions for stimulating the economy and creating much needed jobs.

The conference aims to strengthen the capacity of young people to take charge of their own lives and futures. It brings speakers and entrepreneurs together under one roof to share their journeys and experiences, and wisdom learnt along the way.

It is aimed at SMMEs and those contemplating entrepreneurship as a way forward to personal growth, economic stability and self-fulfilment.

There is a need to connect the youth and the captains of industry, business management, skills development facilitators, entrepreneurs, financial strategists, technological innovators and government regulators to stimulate their entrepreneurship interest.

Some of our speakers include Dr Ernest Messina, chairperson of Groot Constantia Trust, Solly Moeng, South African brand ambassador, Porchia Adams, MD of pH Comms, Ayanda Mvimbi of the United Nations, Prof Quinton Smith of Stellenbosch University, Oliver Chikodzore, MD of On The Globe, and Peter Banda, CEO of Project Management Zimbabwe.

The conference will also feature South African talent through live jazz music, by rising jazz star Babalwa Mentjies and a cappella music by Stellenbosch United Brothers.
