Pienaar now runs F’hoek academy

Marithy Pienaar, former international rugby sevens player, started a women’s 7s rugby academy in Franschhoek as part of the sports offering of Caylix Sport, a Stellenbosch based sports development company.

She joined Caylix Sport in Stellenbosch at the beginning of January 2019 when the Franschhoek 7s Rugby Academy was also established.

Marithy retired as an international 7s player and captain at the end of 2018. She will take the Franschhoek 7s Academy forward as project manager and head coach. Current assistant coaches at the Academy are Christeléne Steinhöbel and Bradley Robertson. Cecil Africa and Philip Snyman support this project in their capacity as ambassadors.

Caylix Sport is a Western Cape based sport development and management company that specialises in the general management of any sport related business.

The forerunner for this Academy started at Bridge House School in 2018, with a Rugby 7s Skills Development programme, developed by former international captain and 7s player, Frankie Horne.

The Franschhoek 7s Academy will focus on skills development, fitness, SAQ and agility with the aim of under 9 and under 13 boys and girls becoming more skilled in the game of 7s. All training will take place at Bridge House School, Franschhoek. Various camps and clinics will be hosted throughout the Western Cape.

The Franschhoek 7s Academy invests in the community and in this regard initiated the Adopt a Child project. They have identified talent from Pniël and Wes-Eind Primary Schools in Franschhoek and currently already have 12 selected boys that are part of the academy.
