Buy a poster, support Jonkershoek Trail

Local graphic artist Duncan Butchart, creator of the African Journey Collection, has launched a Jonkershoek poster, a percentage of the sales of which is being donated to the Jonkershoek Trail Building Fund.

The African Journey Collection is a range of vintage-style poster-prints that celebrate Africa’s most iconic travel destinations. Among the destinations featured in the range are Africa’s most famous wildlife reserves, including Serengeti, Mount Kilimanjaro, Kruger, Maasai Mara, Etosha and the Okavango.

Butchart captures the essence of each iconic locality in a graphic art composition, using his own travel experience, sketches and photographs for reference. Among the popular South African destinations in the range are Cape Town, Garden Route, Drakensberg, Hermanus, Sabi Sand and Kirstenbosch, with Cape Winelands soon to be released.

When it came to designing the Jonkershoek poster Duncan studied mountain biking photographs taken in Jonkershoek and worked closely with local riders to capture the exhilaration of mountain biking typically experienced while riding Jonkershoek’s vast trail network as well as celebrating its natural beauty, lush fynbos and wildlife.

Duncan says: “The creation of a bespoke design for Jonkershoek is very much a part of my motivation for using poster art as a way of generating awareness and pride in Africa’s wild spaces. With a percentage of sales going towards the maintenance of mountain bike trails, the biodiversity at Jonkershoek is protected into the future.”

Properly planned and maintained mountain-bike trails are critical to ensuring the impact on fynbos vegetation is minimised.

The Jonkershoek artwork, on sale at RideIn Café and Specialized’s Stellenbosch store, includes two A2 print options – “ready to hang” canvas or wood, or as car licence disc sticker.
