Celebrate frontline heroes

Over the last several months lives in our communities have been turned upside down.

Many have lost loved ones due to the Coronavirus and many have lost jobs and even hope for the future.

But through it all residents and leaders along with organisations and local businesses in the greater Stellenbosch area has shown resilience to survive this pandemic and save as many lives as possible.

Medical staff have worked overtime to save as many lives as they possibly can. Working tirelessly and for longer hours and more shifts than usual. Some have even given up vacations and family time to heed to the call of duty.

So too have our essential workers who have worked none stop to keep the economy running and our cars and fridges filled, while also risking their lives to provide not only for their families but to make sure our families are also taken care of.

The public servants have also not given up and got down and dirty to make sure our waste and other services are delivered timeously without fail and with dignity.

Policemen and women and firefighters have continued to keep our communities safe despite the risk to themselves and their families. These are our frontline heroes, who serve and protect, without fail and without fear.

We have all had an encounter with at least one of them over the last several months.

Eikestadnuus wants to celebrate these everyday heroes by telling their stories for the next few weeks. So if you have a story about a policeman or woman, firemen, nurse, medic or doctor, or a teller or normal municipal worker, that you would like to share, please send an email with your story to elmarine.anthony@media24.com or a WhatsApp to 079 886 6073 and nominate your frontline hero.
