Ike Moriz in last show of the year

Ike Moriz returns to Oude Libertas Amphitheatre on 30 December for one last spectacular show for 2018. “It will be an evening filled with great music performed by a swing band of legendary musicians of the Cape Town music scene,” says Moriz.

Performing with him will be Willie van Zyl on saxophone and clarinet, Alvin Dyers on guitar, Valentino Europa on double base and Ivan Bell on drums.

The band will be performing popular compositions from Moriz’s 18 CD’s, particularly the songs from his swing albums including hits by Frank Sinatra and Michael Bublé such as “New York New York”, “Fly Me to the Moon”, “Sway”, “Everything” and “Home”.

“I’ve chosen this particular ‘cocktail of music’ because for one thing I believe that it perfectly suits the atmosphere and acoustics of this beautiful location. These songs represent the core of what I love about music in general.

“Having performed at the amphitheatre and in front of audiences in twenty different countries, I’ve noticed how certain melodies have the ability to connect and uplift both the audience and the musicians. I’m privileged to present these timeless classics with a group of excellent artists who share my attitude of putting the creation of beautiful entertaining music above all else.”

This year Moriz released a “best of” album which was followed by tour in Europe. According to Moriz the album involved a lot of retrospection which he says is not usually part of his creative process. “It felt a bit like time-travelling through the past 20 years of my life and it was a lot of fun to revisit the diverse times, places, feelings and opinions this music represents for me.”

Moriz’s plans for 2019 includes more tours of Europe and an Afrikaans language project. He says many fans and friends have asked him to sing Afrikaans songs over the years.

“I often found that there are so many hidden treasures in this part of South African culture and music. Even oversees audiences have enjoyed a few Afrikaans songs at my concerts.”
