Thieves brought to book in the Winelands

In January 2020, numerous cases of theft were solved across the Cape Winelands.

Over the course of three days, a total of five arrests were made following swift responses by Fidelity ADT officers to reports of suspicious activity in areas that form the backbone of the Cape Winelands District.

Three counts of theft occurred in the Paarl area, where stolen goods comprised of vehicle batteries and grapes on a vineyard, while a case of attempted robbery had been opened in the wake of an alarm signal at a clothing and footwear retailer.

Along Weber Valley Road in Stellenbosch, a burglary took place and after patrolling the area, officer Yonga Tyakiwe found the suspect hiding in the nearby bushes.

Tyakiwe was able to detain the suspect and called for SAPS, who quickly arrived at the scene.

At a local supermarket in Wellington, a male suspect was caught breaking into a vehicle and attempting to steal the radio.

“We’re very proud of our officers, who relied on their natural instincts in these cases and responded timeously to reports of criminal activity. I am happy that we were able to work together with the Winelands community to tighten safety and security in the area,” says Verena Hulme, North District manager at Fidelity ADT.
