‘Fake’ ZR-post upsets some roleplayers, but not all

Zwelihle Renewal has denied that it authored a defamatory Facebook-post.

The Facebook-post that was uploaded last week Thursday on a “Zwelihle Renewal” Facebook page made various accusations against Petros Dumse (owner of Overberg Towing), Masizole Mnqasela, DA Overstrand constituency head and Tertius Simmers, Western Cape Minister of Human Settlements.

Thembinkosi Ziba, leader of Zwelihle Renewal, denies uploading the Facebook-post and says that there are currently two ZR Facebook-pages. “Our page did not send out that post. We are however busy with investigations from our side to find out who made that post,” says Ziba. The Facebook-post accuses Simmers of hoping that Land Party leader Gcobani Ndzongana will either be killed or arrested. The post further makes the accusation that Dumse and Mnqasela are meeting in private to plan the assassination of Ndzongana. The post then further states that Dumse is working against Ndzongana in order to get a tender from Overstrand Municipality.

Dumse commented by saying that he is used to these tricks by Zwelihle Renewal and that he has been targeted by them before in a Facebook-post. “I am not sure what they are talking about in this Facebook-post, they could be talking about one of my cousins or another family member of mine because they never mention my first name in the post,” says Dumse.

Simmers says that allegations made in this Facebook-post are baseless, foolish and irresponsible. “We remain committed to engaging all relevant stakeholders, who act in the interest of the entire community and want to see the project through, as it will redress the spatial injustices of the past by creating a sustainable and integrated community,” he adds.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) replied on behalf of Mnqasela by saying that they take note of the accusations and allegations by Zwelihle Renewal (ZR) and that were recently levelled against Mnqasela around seeming matters of contention on the Schulphoek and Zwelihle housing and land issues in Hermanus.

“However, it has to be placed on record that these spurious and malicious attempts to defame and defile the sound reputation and intent of Mnqasela is viewed with the contempt that it deserves. Moreover, it is clear that the statements issued by a few nameless individuals fronting a particular organisation under the guise of supposedly conveying the sentiments of the greater community has without fail proven to be without foundation,” says the DA.

They reiterated that the party as a whole will continue on its promised mandate of housing delivery to the most deserving, which in this instance is the Schulphoek Better Living Model Housing project.
