HCFS offices now reopened

The Hermanus Child and Family Services’ (HCFS) offices re-opened on Monday after it was closed as a precautionary measure last week, when a staff member had come into contact with someone who tested positive for Covid-19.

David Duncan, HCFS General Manager, confirmed the staff member, whose close relative had tested positive, was still in self-isolation, although they displayed no symptoms of the disease.

“The safety guidelines given by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases states a person is ‘infectious’ from two days before to 14 days after their symptoms began,” he explained. “As a result, no-one presently in the office has been in contact with a person who is deemed ‘infectious’.”

The decision to close the offices, situated in Malva Street, Mount Pleasant, said Duncan, was taken merely as a precautionary measure to prevent any possible contamination.

The office is disinfected on a daily basis.
