Hermanus Combined Choir needs your help to grow

“Music is what I live for.” These words were passionately said by Siyabonga Vonco who started the Hermanus Combined Choir in April 2018.

The small group of only 10 members rapidly grew to 40 plus members in just a few months, ranging between the ages of 16 and 45. “We encourage the young people to be part of the choir and advise them to pursue their love for music,” says Vonco.

He explains that he wanted to start something new and be different from the gospel choir genre “clap and tap” and as a group they decided to focus more on choral music.

On Sunday 9 September 2018 the choir took part in the Western Cape Choral Music Association (WECCMA) competition which took place at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town. They participated in the Development Category and obtained first place (“Hermanus choir enchants CT audience”, Hermanus Times, 13 September 2018). “All the members were extremely happy, it was something we dreamt about and it finally happened.”

The choir is available for bookings and performances at weddings, funerals, birthdays and much more.

The vision of the choir is to join other choirs in national and provincial festivals, concerts and ultimately create an Overstrand mass choir.

“However we are in desperate need of sponsors to contribute to choir uniforms, transport and other necessities,” said Vonco.
