Nearly 1 000 bikers’ Toy Run

“This year’s Toy Run was a huge success, as we collected more toys than ever before, and there were more bikes from afar.”

Eddie Noble, Overberg Toy Run organiser, said the charity group had close to 1 000 riders coming from all over the Overberg region and Cape Town.

He explained the bikers met at the Gansbaai Wimpy at 08:30 and rode via the R43 to Bredasdorp. Similarly, bikers also met at Hermanus Whale Coast Mall at MacDonalds, riding via Hemel-en-aarde to meet Caledon riders, where everyone then teamed up at Van Brakel Stoor at the intersection of the R316/R326 to make their way to the Market Square in Stanford.

Noble added this is the fifth annual Overberg Toy Run. “It was started five years ago by Karl van Zyl, a Stanford resident, to cater for those bikers that wanted to donate toys, but did not want to go all the way through to Cape Town.”

He stressed there was also a dire need to support under-privileged children in the Overberg region over the festive season. “The first Overberg Toy Run was held in Stanford, and two motorbikes and three bicycles was the total sum of ‘riders’ involved, and toys were also collected for charity.”

On Saturday 24 November the group managed to collect a staggering 1 950 toys. “The toys will be distributed to various charities around the Overberg region.”

Noble said a festive atmosphere prevailed at the Stanford Village Green.
